Before
beginning a career in documentary television and video, Nancy worked as an
editor and researcher at The Rand Corporation in Santa Monica, and as a
freelance writer and editor. Her articles have appeared in California
Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Westways, the Los Angeles
Times, Boston Globe and other newspapers. She has also written
travel books and served as editor-in-chief of the Rand McNally World
Traveler’s Almanac.
While
working at California Communications, Inc. in Hollywood, Nancy wrote and
produced more than 30 informational programs for corporate and institution
clients, including the American Cancer Society, the National Kidney
Foundation, the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Delta
Queen Steamboat Company. Her work during this period was honored with two
Cindy Awards from the Information Film Producers Association and an Intercom
Award from the Chicago Film Festival.
Since
joining Wilkman Productions in 1980, Nancy has served as writer, producer
and/or story editor on nearly all of the company's television programs. Her
work has been broadcast on PBS, HBO, A&E and The History Channel, and her
script "Ramona: A Story of Passion & Protest" for the Los Angeles History
Project was honored with a best-writing Emmy nomination. Nancy has also
produced dozens of informational programs for corporate and institutional
clients, including American Honda, MCI Communications, McKinsey & Co., the
U.S. Department of Energy, the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, and the
University of Judaism. Nancy also serves as a communications consultant to
American Honda, and she has been honored as one of the company’s “premiere
partners.” With her husband and partner, Jon, Nancy is the co-author
of the illustrated history of Los Angeles, "Picturing Los Angeles" and
"Los Angeles: A Pictorial Celebration." A recent print
project is a
history of the Cooperative of American Physicians.
Nancy is a
Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UCLA with a Master's Degree in history. She is a
member of the Writers Guild of America, West, Women in Film, and the
International Documentary Association. |
